Maloney desperate to prove he is over Villa nightmare

SHAUN MALONEY IS DESPERATE TO PROVE HE HAS LEARNED FROM HIS IS UNSUCCESSFUL SHORT SPELL AT ASTON VILLA.

The Wigan winger lasted just 18 months at Villa Park before scuttling back to Celtic in 2008 moaning of homesickness.

But he has an opportunity to show Villa he can still be a Premier League star when he returns for the first time on Saturday.

Maloney is now in Wigan colours having joined in the summer from Celtic.

And his boss Roberto Martinez has noticed in training how keen Maloney is to rebuild his reputation in England.

Martinez said: ``He was desperate to come back to the Premier League.

``And I feel his best years are in front of him, he’s got Champions League experience, has played in a UEFA Cup Final, has played in the SPL and has come to a very good Premier League club.

``I think he can have a massive, massive impact. I haven’t seen a player hungrier to have a big role in the team than him. I’m really excited.

``Quality-wise, he’s a magic player. If we can get him to enjoy his football, he’s going to have a fantastic role with us and I’m really excited.''
