Shawcross refuses to quit Stoke for England chance

Ryan Shawcross refuses to consider the idea of quitting Stoke in a bid to boost his chances of an England call-up.

The Stoke skipper was a target for Spurs and Liverpool in the summer after excelling at the back last term.

And his form as the Potters racked up a nine-match undefeated run at the start of the season led to calls for Fabio Capello to hand him a first England cap.

The clamour for Shawcross to play for his country fell on death ears and now there is talk that a switch to a more illustrious club would give him a better chance of international football.

But Shawcross said: ``I've always said that I wanted to play in Europe and Stoke City have given me that opportunity, so my future is undoubtedly here at the Britannia Stadium.

``I really do love it here, the fans are great to me and the manager is absolutely top class.

``He is probably the biggest factor in wanting to be here because I really enjoy working underneath him.

``He keeps making me a better player and has shown unbelievable faith in me.

``With the group of lads we have here too, I don't think anyone would want to leave. It's a great set-up with a very good team who are all striving to bring success to the football club."
