Rodriguez gives Burnley selection headache

Eddie Howe is hoping the blow Jay Rodriguez suffered to his nose will not leave him with a selection headache tonight.

Burnley striker Rodriguez needed a stitch in a bad cut on his nose following the 2-1 win at Coventry City last Saturday.

And Howe fears that injury could rule him out of tonight's Carling Cup clash with Cardiff - leaving him short of strikers.

He said: ``Jay is a concern after taking a nasty whack. There are a couple of things to think about – your breathing and also if you get another whack on it.

``We want Jay fit for Saturday so we've got all those things to consider. That's not to say that he's out, we'll make a late decision on it."

Howe is already without the cup-tied Junior Stanislas and that may leave him calling on the inexperienced Alex MacDonald if Rodriguez is ruled out.
