Dalglish Finally Reveals Gerrard Is Close To A Return

Kenny Dalglish has uttered the words every Liverpool fan wants to hear - Steven Gerrard is closing in on a return to action.

The Reds chief has been careful not to pile the pressure on his skipper by offering up a date for his return from an ankle injury.

And that has left fans worried that the infection currently keeping him out is more serious than first feared.

The problem was initially only expected to sideline Gerrard for several weeks and it is now seven weeks since he last laced his boots.

But the midfielder is in line to make his return before the end of the month to hand Liverpool a much wanted Christmas present.

Dalglish revealed his star has not suffered any setbacks in his treatment and is close to a return.

He said: ``The longer it goes on the closer he is to coming back. Who's mentioned setbacks?

``We've said all along we're really positive with his recuperation. We cannot put a date on it.

``The fact of the matter is his progress has been excellent and sooner rather than later he will be back.''

Sadly for Liverpool Gerrard will not be back tomorrow night to take over in central midfield from the injured Lucas Leiva.

And now it's up to Charlie Adam to try and nullify the threat of Fulham's arch schemer Danny Murphy.

The former Liverpool star is the kingpin of the Cottagers side and Dalglish admits he is a major threat to the Reds chances of snatching all three points.

He added: "Danny's been very influential for Fulham but he did a fantastic job here as well.

``Other people here know him better than I do but he's been really important to Fulham in terms of what he contributes to the team.

``I just hope he doesn't hurt us. He can hurt everybody else."
