Wigan's Al-Habsi Gets Martinez Backing

Wigan's keeper Ali Al-Habsi has been given the backing of boss Roberto Martinez despite being at fault for the opening two goals in the 4-0 defeat by Arsenal at the weekend.

The shot-stopper let Mikel Arteta's long range shot pass through his hands for the opener when the Latics had actually been on top.

And he was also at fault when allowing Thomas Vermaelen to score with a header from a corner minutes later.

But the former Bolton man has been assured his place in the Martinez's starting eleven is not under threat - even with Chris Kirkland waiting in the wings.

Martinez said: ``He has been in terrific form but football is a game of errors and what I liked from Ali is that in the second half he had two outstanding saves.

``He is disappointed with the two goals but we win together and we lose together. Mistakes happen in a game.

``The goals could have been prevented before they got into the goalkeeper. That's something we need to get stronger and learn from it.''
