AC Milan Add Sweetener To Tevez Deal

AC Milan are trying to sweeten their move for Carlos Tevez by adding German midfielder Alexander Merkel to the deal.

The Italians have already agreed personal terms with Tevez and are desperate to push through the switch.

But Manchester City are unwilling to accept a move which would see Tevez spend the next six months on loan before signing permanently for £22m.

They fear AC Milan could drop out of the deal in the summer and leave them hunting for a new buyer.

So the Serie A giants are going to offer to send Merkel to the Etihad Stadium as a makeweight in a bid to tempt the Blues.

Merkel, 19, is currently on loan at Genoa but is rated as one of Europe's rising midfield talents.

He moved to Milan from VfB Stuttgart in 2008 and made six appearances before being sent to Genoa to continue his football education.

AC Milan CEO Adriano Galliani is desperate to sow up the Tevez deal after rivals Inter Milan entered the battle for his signature.

Inter are willing to match the £22m fee but are also insisting on an initial loan deal for the Argentine.
