Barmby To Hang Up His Boots

Nick Barmby is hanging up his boots after finally agreeing a deal to take over as Hull boss.

Barmby, 37, has been in caretaker charge for the past seven weeks at the KC Stadium.

And his success has seen owner Assem Allam hand him a lucrative deal to replace Nigel Pearson.

But Barmby accepts when he pens the contract over the weekend, he is committing his playing days to history.

He said: ``I am giving up my football career, which on my side I'm gutted about because I still love playing.

``I've wanted to be out there but that's got to end. That was a big decision for me and probably the biggest.

``But to manage this club, I will do my very best and work as hard as possible.''

Barmby played 23 times for England during a career that took in Spurs, Liverpool and Everton and saw him play 584 games.
