Liverpool Rival Newcastle for Corgnet

Liverpool are rivalling Newcastle in the chase for Dijon midfielder Benjamin Corgnet.

Magpies boss Alan Pardew has seen an approach for the 24-year-old rebuffed already this winter.

And that has allowed Liverpool to enter the race with Kenny Dalglish sending his scouts to regularly check on the free scoring star.

Corgnet has netted seven goals in his last 14 games for French top division side Dijon and his form has also caught the eye of Aston Villa.

His club have confirmed he can leave in the summer but the trio of English clubs are looking to land him this month.

Newcastle were hoping their recent success in bringing trawling France for talent had thrown up another signing.

And Pardew is now going to be nervous that Liverpool launch a big money bid for Corgnet.
