Feyenoord will ask Manchester United to loan them striker Federico Macheda if their bid to land Manchester City youngster John Guidetti does not come off.

The Dutch side are desperate to take Swede Guidetti back for a second campaign after he netted 20 goals in 23 Eredivisie appearances last term.

But City have so far ignored their offer of a loan deal with £4m bids from Lazio and Galatasaray in the pipeline.

Feyenoord will turn their attention to Macheda, 20, if they are snubbed by the Blues.

The Italian striker gained cult status when his injury-time winner on his debut against Aston Villa in April 2009 helped the Reds towards the title.

He was just 17 that day and Sir Alex Ferguson hailed his attributes at the start of the following season.

But Macheda failed to deliver on the pitch and was loaned out to Sampdoria and QPR without making much of an impact at either club.

Feyenoord's technical director, Martin van Geel, is still a fan though and is ready to contact Old Trafford for talks over a season-long loan.
