Charlie Austin Is Gunning for Ray Pointer's Burnley Record

Charlie AustinBurnley hot shot Charlie Austin can boast SIX goals in his last three games.
And today he is gunning for the two more strikes he needs to equal a 51-year-old club goal scoring record.

The former non-league hitman has netted ten goals already this season and is just two short of Ray Pointer's club best of 12 before the end of September - set back in 1961.

And his happy knack of being in the right place, at the right time means Austin is confident of finding the net.

The 23-year-old said: "I put myself in areas of maximum opportunity to try and get goals. The stats don't lie.

"That’s my game, scoring goals, and I’m quite good at it.

"If you're a goalscorer, you're a goalscorer and you have a knack of finding that extra yard, that extra bit of time in the box and you normally put the ball away."

Austin smashed 17 goals last term in a campaign that was affected by injury and is on course to beat that high.

"It’s been a decent start for me personally, this season."

Winger Ross Wallace (pictured right) is one of the players providing the ammunition for Austin and he reckons the former Swindon man should be aiming to finish the campaign as leading scorer.

He already tops the goal charts across all four divisions with his ten efforts in nine games.

And Wallace said: "Charlie’s been magnificent and that’s his job, he’s paid to score goals. He’s banging them in and doing very well.

"With the service from the midfield players and from Kieran Trippier bombing on as well, I think Charlie’s had a lot of chances to score.

"If Charlie’s not the top goalscorer at the end of the season he’ll be disappointed himself. He’s a clinical finisher."
