Micah Richards Deserves England Call - Roberto Mancini

Roberto Mancini is urging Roy Hodgson to consider Micah Richards as a solution to his defensive problems.

With John Terry retiring from England duty and Rio Ferdinand no longer in the international frame, Hodgson needs to find a new defensive pairing.

Manchester City's Joleon Lescott partnered Phil Jagielka at the back in the dour 1-1 draw with Poland and looked hopelessly short of pace.

That is one thing Richards has in abundance and the muscular stopper can also battle with big strikers.

The City star's only cap in recent years came in the defeat by Holland back in February when Stuart Pearce was in temporary charge.

Mancini believes now is the right time to bring him back into picture permanently.

He said: "For Micah there will be a chance to play in the national team. He has everything to play for them, he’s strong, quick.

"He’s improved in the last two years and if you are Micah you are lucky because he can play right back or centre back.”
