Rob Edwards Signs for Fleetwood from Barnsley

Fleetwood have raided Barnsley to land 29-year-old Welshman Rob Edwards on a month's loan.

Edwards was formerly on the books of Fleetwood's neighbours Blackpool, where he played 55 games during a three season spell.

He quit Blackpool for Barnsley in July having spent time out on loan at Norwich.

Edwards played 18 times for the Tykes but has yet to appear this season for Keith Hill's Championship strugglers.

Fleetwood have drafted Edwards in to provide cover for injured skipper Steve McNulty.

But he could land a permanent deal if he convinces boss Micky Mellon he can give his team some added leadership at the back.

Fleetwood have conceded seven goals in three home games this season and need to tighten up.

Former Wales international Edwards began his career at Aston Villa before switching across the Midlands to Wolves and heading to Blackpool in August 2008.
