Matt Jarvis Was Too Rich For Our Blood, Says Tony Pulis

Tony Pulis admits Stoke could not live with West Ham when it came to bidding for winger Matt Jarvis.

The Potters boss was keen to land Jarvis, 26, when relegated Wolves made it known they were willing sellers.

Pulis quickly got to work believing the wideman could provide the ammunition for Peter Crouch to feed off.

But once Hammers boss Sam Allardyce got wind of a deal, the game was up for Pulis.

The London club slapped £7.5m on the table and Pulis was forced to pull out of negotiations.

Pulis said: "We had an interest in him but it was the deal that was the problem.

"The money West Ham paid for him was a little bit too rich for us."

Now he fears Jarvis could rip into his Stoke side when the teams clash tomorrow night.

"He's a good lad," Pulis added. "He is an old fashioned winger that gets down the outside of people and gets crosses in.

"He will give you a good service, but the deal in the end was a little bit too much for us."
