Robin van Persie Impresses Rio Ferdinand at United

Robin van Persie
Rio Ferdinand reckons Robin van Persie has slotted in at Manchester United so easily because he left his ego at the Emirates.

The Dutch star has been an instant hit at Old Trafford since his £25m switch from Arsenal in the summer.

He took no time to get among the goals and his partnership with Wayne Rooney is now the most feared in the Premier League.

Van Persie's strike against his old club on Saturday took his tally for the season to ten goals in 11 starts.

And whilst pundits are surprised how quickly the striker managed to get up to speed at his new club, Ferdinand was convinced he would be an immediate success.

That's because van Persie arrived at United and impressed his new team-mates by turning up without a hint of being a big-time Charlie.

His willingness to muck in with the lads won over United stars worried about the attitude of a player who was the main man at former club Arsenal.

But Ferdinand revealed: "The best way you can settle in at a new club is to get on with the other lads and he's done that straight away.

"He came in with no airs and graces about him - that's the first thing you notice.

"He's come into a really down-to-earth changing room and there's no way anybody could come in as the big 'I am' and that's definitely not in his make-up.

"He's a really nice guy."

But it's not all about being pally at a success driven club like Manchester United and Ferdinand concedes his team-mate's brilliant ability to find the net is also helping him make friends.

He added: "You've obviously got to be able to put your foot on the ball and put the ball in the back of the net, and you can't ask him to have done any more than he has."

"He's done really well."
