Stoke Can't Stop Ryan Shawcross From Quitting

Tony Pulis admits Stoke can't stand in the way of Ryan Shawcross if a top-four club make a move.

Chairman Peter Coates insists he would like to keep the centre half for a decade.

But his manager says they are powerless if the  25-year-old wants to move to one of the Premier League big boys.

Manchester United are monitoring his progress, after they sold him for an initial £1million four years ago.

Now, there is talk of a £12m move to Old Trafford or one of the other title contenders.

Pulis said: ‘If a top-three or four club came in and they paid the money, there’s no way in a million years we’d be able to prevent Ryan from going.

‘It’s a natural progression for players to play at the top level.

'If a top-four club came along and the money and everything was right for both the club and the player, then it would be very difficult to stop the player from going.

Ryan is a fantastic man but he has to do the best he possibly can for himself and his family.’

Stoke are prepared to offer Shawcross, who is in England’s squad for the Sweden friendly next Wednesday, a new six-year deal.
