Sunderland Want John Guidetti To Fire Them To Safety

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is trying to persuade Manchester City to loan him striker John Guidetti in January.

The 20-year-old Swede was a huge hit in Holland last year, scoring 20 goals in 23 games for Dutch side Feyenoord.

But a virus struck him down at the start of the season and Guidetti has not featured for the Blues this term.

Feyenoord want to take him back in January but face competition from struggling Sunderland.

O'Neill's side have only scored 13 goals in 14 Premier League games this season with Steven Fletcher leading the charts with six strikes.

And the Black Cats chief is convinced landing Guidetti would add a new dimension to his strike force.

He needs goals to lift his team away from the relegation zone. They currently sit one place above the drop zone.
