Asmir Begovic Wanted by Manchester City and United

Manchester City are planning to battle it out with rivals United for Stoke keeper Asmir Begovic.

Roberto Mancini wants Bosnian Begovic to switch to the Etihad and keep Joe Hart on his toes.

And that has put him on course for a fight with Reds Devils chief Ferguson, who believes Begovic, 25, is the right man to take over from flop David de Gea.

Begovic snubbed Spurs to sign for Stoke three years ago with Tony Pulis paying Portsmouth £3m for his services.

He nearly quit for Chelsea before establishing himself as the first choice with the Potters - ahead of Danish veteran Thomas Sorensen.

And his impressive displays for Stoke have caught the eye of the Premier League's two top clubs.

City currently have 6ft 8in Romanian Costel Pantilimon as back up to Hart but the England man knows he is first choice.

The arrival of Begovic could change that with the ambitious shot-stopper capable of providing a serious challenge to Hart's senior position at the champions.
