Kieren Westwood Not Being Allowed To Quit Sunderland

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill is snubbing interest from Hull for keeper Kieren Westwood.

Irish international Westwood is keen on quitting the Black Cats and searching for first team football after failing to gain a Premier League start this term.

But O'Neill has no intention of letting him leave as he needs Westwood as back up for first choice Simon Mignolet.

He said: "Kieren obviously wants to play some games.

"But I am very reluctant because we don't have the back-up.

"A manager did ask me about him a few days ago - manager to manager which is very unusual these days! But I just couldn't do anything.

"I have got the two goalkeepers and my situation is that I have a very good keeper in reserve.

"It is hard to replace Simon at the moment because he is playing exceptionally well."
